Just received my Elite 2 controller, and while information technology feels slap-up in easily and everything seems to work out of the gate, I noticed that the A button would miss one-half of the hits unless I intentionally press it down fully. After some googling this seems to be extremely common, and some even claims that it's an design issue. Can anyone with an Elite 2 controller share some inputs? Shall I try my luck with an exchange or shall I simply return information technology?
#two
I tested 3 separate Elite 2s and they all had this consequence. Got a full refund in the end.
Some people say theirs doesn't have the event merely I've never been able to ostend it. It's possible some are actually fine. That or the other people don't press the button the same way I practice.
#3
I'll give mine a go when I become a adventure I apply A on 1 of my rear paddles so I've never even tried the button!
#4
Had it on both my elites. It was a nightmare playing Ori only otherwise information technology doesn't seem a big deal, although you could argue that a premium product shouldn't be sold with such a glaring flaw. I definitely won't be buying the next generation without confirmation of a fix. It is when you glance the A-button with the edge of the pollex that it doesn't tend to register, in my experience. Pressing information technology dead on is fine. It is not sensitive enough.
#v
Last year I bought the Magenta Phantom controller and information technology had the exact same trouble you lot're describing. Was immediately noticeable in Spelunky ii as half my jumps wouldn't annals. Ended up returning, which was a shame because that was a actually cool looking controller.
#vi
This is really unacceptable given the price of the controller. The standard SX controller has no issues that I'chiliad aware of.
#7
I got the regular controller that came with my Series X and noticed this event when playing Ori, sometimes it won't annals if pressed lightly (merely not besides light, I'm still pressing the button).
#8
Aye when my replacement had the same issue I just stock-still it myself
#9
IIRC it'south a design issue with how the lath is mounted. Information technology allows the whole corner of the lath to depress when y'all hit A, and so you need to press harder than other buttons to ensure the button itself is fully depressing. Could be wrong, but I call up that'southward what twelvemonth downs showed dorsum near release.
#x
My gratuitous Taco Bong elite v2 has no issues with the face buttons and I've used information technology since before information technology launched.
My second Elite V2 that I got like a calendar month ago has the B face push not registering unless I put more pressure level on it. Kinda ridiculous
#11
The standard SX controller has no issues that I'thousand aware of.
Mine has this exact problem, it sometimes doesn't register if I press the A push lightly or at an angle.
#12
Went through multiple replacements and they all take information technology. Even the start and select buttons fail to register unless y'all utilise a ton of pressure.
#13
I tested three separate Aristocracy 2s and they all had this effect. Got a full refund in the finish.
Some people say theirs doesn't have the consequence but I've never been able to confirm it. It's possible some are actually fine. That or the other people don't press the button the same way I do.
Mine did have this issue when I bought it, and information technology persisted for the offset 3 weeks. The only reason I kept it is because I was using the paddle to replace A in the shooters I was playing at the time (for jump).
I'd gone on to proceed using it on Game Pass titles of different genres in the end stages of the Xbox One X generation and now my A responds reliably. I was playing Ori and the Will of the Wisps on my Series Ten with it and had no issues.
That said, I don't retrieve my example is something people should actually persist toward and tolerate. The matter should work reliably out of the box.
It's worth noting that my Y button was also sticking out of the box and stayed that way for the first calendar week or and so, and repeatedly pressing it somewhen made information technology office normally. Once again, for how much customers pay upwardly front for this, I do not suggest people just "deal with it" this way.
#14
First 1 I had, information technology was basically unusable. Second one, information technology's better, but yet a problem. I kept information technology considering I do like the controller...
#xv
This is really unacceptable given the price of the controller. The standard SX controller has no issues that I'm aware of.
My SX had this same issue only with the Y button. Horrible feel to it. But worked with a total-on direct press downwardly.

So in the RE2 remake in that location an obstacle that yous have to move out of the way, only after arriving at the station. You take to hold down the A push to do and so. When I use a keyboard it'due south no consequence. When I apply a PlayStation control, again no issue. Only I noticed with an Xbox controller (seemingly whatsoever of them, from what I tested) I take to use but a little bit more than light force or the obstruction falls back in place. The button itself can exist pushed down, only non quite hard plenty for it to activate. So information technology'southward not just the elite controllers with this odd behavior.
#17
My Serial X launch controllers A push was fucked from the start so I just bought a new crimson one rather than jump through their render hoops. Same result - feels similar it doesn't register half the fourth dimension unless pressed really hard. Pathetic really.
#18
It'south a design effect. I have an elite and elite 2 and both accept problems with the A button. Life pro tip though map the A button to the bottom left paddle for the new Doom games.
#xix
I've had three different Aristocracy ii controllers and they all had problems with input non registering. One of those were a repair/replacement from MS. And so yeah, it's just shitty quality. Which is a shame because the controller itself feels very overnice albeit way over priced.
#xx
I had this problem with the regular Xbox one S white controller, a friend of mine opened it, cleaned the contacts very thoroughly and it went from sometimes non registering to at present registering 9 out of 10 times. button A.
#21
Design flaw, render it. I gave upwards after the third v2, and I value my difficult earned coin as well much to make accommodations for a subpar product sold to me by a gigantic company
#22
This isn't just an elite issue, I bought an Xbox 1 in 2019 and went through a few regular controllers with this issue, just at the time it seemed less known of. I wonder if it's something that wasn't present in earlier Xbox Ane controllers? Merely seems to be very common at present and infuriating. Simply perhaps not inevitable like drift, but bad batches?
#23
I went through 3 elite 2s. Ended up getting a full refund. They feel dandy, just the buttons suck.
#24
I've had this problem on random Xbox controllers since they introduced the Bluetooth model. The one that came with my one 10, the replacement, a ruddy series controller, and a bluish series controller.
#25
Have had both elite controllers fall apart a little after a year. Information technology'due south insane that such an expensive controller is then faulty. Here's hoping the v3 is meliorate.
#26
I never bothered to look it upward, but I have that on my regular-donkey white controller (second revision). Seems like information technology's a common issue.
#28
I had this problem and only got a refund. Use a razor wolverine tournament edition instead now.
#29
While I love the weight, the feel, the customizable aspects, the controller is a quality nightmare.
I got mine in an Xbox parcel. I rarely use my Xbox chip it adult drift almost immediately. Luckily the warranty is great. Sent it out, got it back, all good. Merely this past week playing apex I noticed a button misfiring every one time in a while. I actually thought maybe information technology was some sort of lag, or a weird angle I was trying to spring on causing information technology to just cancel out, but nope afterwards testing information technology a scrap, the button misfires. Glad to see I'1000 not the simply one. Gonna use the warranty one more time, but I'g non expecting it to concur up for very long.
#30
I've had similar issues with every single Xbox controller I've had since the fat XBO one. There'south always been at least 1 finicky confront button.
#31
Isn't it an OS result? I thought I saw a thread where they acknowledged there was an result with input reliability.
Is the Aristocracy 2s a completely different issue?
#32
I went through four (yes four) before I got one that didn't have this issue. Though information technology's not just A it can happen with whatsoever of the confront buttons. Either I'thou extremely unlucky or people just don't discover the missed presses or blame the game I guess
#33
Not sure, simply for ~$200 the product should piece of work flawlessly and non accept something suspension soon later purchase.
Had a friend buy an Elite v2 and literally the first time he used it, the left joystick would stick to the right. These controllers accept been poorly made since terminal gen, Sony and Nintendo included.
Made this thread to track problems, if interested -- https://www.resetera.com/threads/let'due south-rail-our-broken-controllers-this-gen.434288/
#34
It's a design issue. I have an elite and elite 2 and both take bug with the A push. Life pro tip though map the A push button to the lesser left paddle for the new Doom games.
I concord with this one. I've the same outcome with my Elite v2 (as almost anybody equally it's probably a design upshot) so mapping A to the left paddle basically stock-still it permanently for me, while even improving my gameplay ;)
#35
Also happens with normal controllers. Sometimes no registration, sometimes double taps.
#36
This has been a design event with Xbox controllers for some years at present.
I went through 5 regular Series Ten controllers with this problem.
I think part of the consequence is that the buttons are very large/deep and have a lot of "play" or travel in them. And so if you don't press them expressionless center firmly, they sometimes don't depress completely to brand the contact at the bottom.
You'll notice that if you hit the A button lightly and to the right side like I do, information technology doesn't go down all the style and information technology tilts to 1 side a bit.
#37
Quality Control of the Elites are fucked up. I'thou currently on controller 5 or half dozen with various issues that came up during the course of using them.
They are the best controllers out there. But they are so flawed information technology'southward incredibly frustrating.
#38
Isn't it an OS issue? I thought I saw a thread where they acknowledged there was an issue with input reliability.
I suffered from it using the Elite 2 on PC. You can open the controller properties and see what inputs are being registered. If yous don't printing perfectly directly down on the A push it doesn't register. The A button cutout is just as well big. This is why the piece of work around was to stuff the A button cutout with tape. I don't await this tin can be fixed through software updates.

I accept no faith in Xbox controllers anymore. I've owned plenty of them for utilise on my PC, and in every single example, without exception, they've had some kind of fault, sometimes to such a degree as to make the controller literally unusable, while in others I can power through. My latest one has the A-button trouble (and this isn't an aristocracy controller) as well as often existence unable to connect to the figurer wirelessly without first using a cable to establish contact. Before that, some of my controllers straight-up died on me, some got and then squeaky that the noise would overpower the sound from games, and most of them developed issues with the buttons not registering reliably.
In the concurrently, every single Playstation controller I've owned is nonetheless going strong. If it wasn't for the fact that Xbox controllers are much better supported on PC, I'd be using the PS controllers there too. I know others have had trouble with those controllers themselves, just this is simply my personal experience with the two brands.
For this reason, I would never consider buying the elite controllers. They cost too much for me to take them failing later on only a few months in some way or another.
#twoscore
I wanted to buy an elite then badly but I remember seeing zippo just QC complaints online. I actually just wanted to try paddles for the start time e'er lol. Strangely I found an alternative... For $40 on clearance at Walmart. Possibly I'm crazy just this is a legitimately nifty controller:
All-time Purchase PowerA Fusion controller
It'due south actually on sale right now. I just got a killer bargain lol.
#41
This has been an outcome for me off and on across a dozen different Xbox controllers from the V1 2013 pad, the V2, the Aristocracy Series 1, V3 Bluetooth, and now the Due south|Ten pad. It's a design upshot that may or may not manifest on any Microsoft controller. Like 40% of the controllers I've bought accept had it or migrate out of the box (on PC anyway).
#42
Return it. My controller has the same issue. I powered through the problem and adjusted to hitting the A button on the controller'south terms with full, deliberate presses because I actually wanted those paddles for multi-button shortcut macros on PC. Just if you aren't as hellbent on making it work, drop it and wait for the Aristocracy 3s whenever those come around to see if they address the issue.
#43
Information technology happens since Xbox One (S for certain), it's a design issue and it's inexplainable that MS didn't do a thing to gear up information technology fifty-fifty if they merits how much are tested their controllers. It's sad since is a serious issue only anybody is on stick drifting now and doesn't care nearly this. I was fortunate to accept a white Series S controller that become A button correct xc% of time, but I'm the lucky one (can still lose input or double input merely is more than rare if you learn how to press it).
#44
I would render it. Afterwards most a year my Elite V2 started having issues with the bumpers registering twice whenever I pressed them. Microsoft sent me a brand new controller and this one has been working perfect so far luckily. Never had any issues with normal Xbox controllers in the concluding 15 years though.
#45
Same affair happened to my regular xbox one x controller, i guess it'southward an xbox feature
#46
2 of my Series X controllers registered double inputs one-half the time when I pressed A
I swear the quality command of these controllers is and so hit and miss
#47
I noticed the same thing on my regular Xbox Series South controller when I first got information technology. Took a lot of getting used to - sometimes It would even annals a unmarried press twice. The latter problem seem to have gotten away, and I've grown acustomed to pressing the face buttons harder, than what I used to.
I retrieve reading nearly others having like problems in the initial launch threads.
#48
I've never had a problem with it, simply I fully believe it'due south more only that it works how I press information technology rather than it non existence an outcome.
#49
My right bumper double presses which seems to be a common event. On paper information technology'south the perfect controller for me but the quality command is awful peculiarly for something priced at 200. For that it should have space warranty a straight bandy anytime something goes wrong with it.
#50
Changed it vii times in hopes to get a skillful one, sadly never ever take i seen a good one. Every 1 of them had exactly the same problem. Its absolutely disgusting for the price they are asking.
